Assignment Title: IT Project Manager Pre-Interview Report (Individual)

Assignment Scenario:

Congratulations on your application for the position of IT Project Manager! As part of the pre-interview employment test, you are required to create a comprehensive report for an IT project allocated to you that addresses the following 6 tasks for the project. Your report should provide in-depth analysis and well-justified solutions related to your chosen project. Your answer should be original and created by you. Plagiarism will be heavily penalized and reported to the University for disciplinary action.

Here is a list of 50 IT projects from which your lecturer will allocate one project to you (Each project can only be assigned to one student):

Task 1: Project Life Cycle Analysis (1 page, 5 mark)

a) Introduce different possible project life cycles.

b) Justify which one, in your view, is most suitable for the chosen project.

Task 2: Elements of a Computerised Business System (1 page, 5 mark)

a) Introduce different elements of a computerised business system, and explain how they are related.

b) Provide one example from the chosen project for it with its different elements (explain each element in one short paragraph).

Task 3: Choosing the Project Management Tool (1 page, 5 mark)

Imagine you are only allowed to use one of the following project management tools in your chosen project: ASANA, WRIKE, or JIRA. Justify your choice by considering the specific needs and characteristics of the project.

Task 4: Project Charter (1.5 page, 7.5 marks)

a) What is project charter?

b) When (at which phase) and why it is used?

c) Create a one page brief project charter for your project, include at least 8 items and for each item explain it in a short paragraph.

Task 5: Introducing Agile Approach to the Project Sponsor (1 page, 7.5 mark)

a) Imagine the project sponsor is curious about the potential use of the Agile approach for managing the chosen project. Introduce Agile methodology.

b) Justify its use in the chosen project.

c) Draw a figure to broadly show him how agile methodology works.

Task 6: Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) (1-1.5 pages, 10 mark)

a) Introduce the concept of MCDM and how it can be used in a decision-making scenario.

b) Present three choices for a specific aspect of the chosen project (anything, for example, selecting a technology platform, a database, a contractor) and identify four criteria for evaluation (anything, for example, cost, performance, scalability, and security). Use MCDM and draw a table to make an informed choice and justify your decision.

All page limits are set with font size 11 (Times New Roman) and single spacing, using 2.54cm margins on all sides.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The assessor’s evaluation for this assignment generally follows the submission requirements as noted above. The evaluation will be conducted in accordance with the separate Marking Rubric for this assignment which details the evaluation criteria and weightings (available marks).

DEADLINE:

Assignment should be uploaded on the relevant dropbox in week 7. Assignments should include a coversheet signed and filled by the students. Each assignment will be checked for plagiarism. Students have access to check their assignment originality before submission.
