EC3119 DATABASE SYSTEMS
PART A: DATABASE LOGICAL MODEL
To develop a logical model of the proposed unique database system for any organization chosen by you or your team using MySQL DBMS or any MySQL environment. Based on the proposed system, complete the assigned task.
THE TASK:
You have to produce documentation in the following format:
1) BACKGROUND (5 Marks) – Background should include the following:
(i) Introduction to current system
(ii) Problem with the existing system
(iii) Significance of proposed system
2) OBJECTIVE (5 Marks) – The objective of current system should not be more than five and less than three and it should be listed in bullet form. Example:
Objectives:
โข To enable working process easier for the clients
โข To make the system make the process easier
โข To generate related report on proposed system
3) PROBLEM STATEMENT (5 Marks) – State whatโs new with the proposed system than that of existing system.
4) SCOPE (5 Marks) – Define scope for your proposed system, example:
* Once you created your system, make sure all the said scope is available.
5) HARDWARE & SOFTWARE SPECIFICATION (5 Marks) – Identify the hardware and software requirements to develop the system
6) ENTITY RELATIONSHIP DIAGRAM (15 Marks) – Draw entity relationship diagram with its attributes of proposed system
7) RELATIONAL SCHEMA (10 Marks) – Provide the data schema for the proposed system. Data schema should be documented using the entity relationship diagram.
– Identify the primary and foreign key.
8) NORMALIZATION (10 Marks) – Normalize the table into 3NF
PART B (DATABASE DESIGN) (15 Marks) Based on the proposal in Part A, develop the proposed system. You most develop database for the proposed system in XAMPP or other MySQL platform.
PART C (DOCUMENTATION) (15 Marks) You need to prepare a document with the following contents:
โข All components listed in Part A
โข Print screen of system user interface
โข Conclusions
– Must consist of brief introduction of your system
– Advantage of your developed system
– Limitations of your system
– Future work / Suggestion
PART D (PRESENTATION) (10 Marks) You are required to prepare slides according to the components listed in Part C (Documentation). You are required to do presentation for 15 minutes.
SUBMISSION
1. Softcopy of documentation with proper inclusion of process and result of system screenshot.
2. Marks are only given upon demonstrating your prepared database system and documentation.
3. Format of the report:
