Industrial Training Programme Guidebook

1. INTRODUCTION

This Industrial Training Guideline booklet will explain about Industrial Training for CG Institute of Management (CGIM) students. Students who have fulfilled all courses requirement are qualified to undergo this training.

This booklet will help students to understand the importance of this Industrial Training and helps to clarify any ambiguities related to the training.

On behalf of Industrial Training Programme Committee, we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude towards every individual involved in our industrial training and towards the betterment of future education.

2. OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Industrial Training are:

a) To expose students to the various aspects of industrial practices, professionalism and ethics.

b) To provide students with industrial experience and knowledge, which are required in industry and are not taught in the lecture room.

c) To provide a platform for students to apply the knowledge taught in the lecture rooms in real industrial situations.

d) With all the experience and knowledge gained, students will be able to choose appropriate work streams upon graduation.

3. DURATION

The duration of the training is 8 weeks.

4. PLACEMENT

Students are encouraged to apply for their industrial training on their own accord. However, the place chosen must be able to give students adequate exposure in area of studies. Hence, a research on the proposed company is highly recommended. The documents needed when applying for an industrial training are:

1. Application Letter

2. Curriculum Vitae

3. Verification letter from CG Institute of Management.

Should you hold any scholarship for your studies, please consult your sponsors for approved placement of industrial training.

5. RESPONSIBILITIES

a) The student is required to inform CGIM upon receiving an Acceptance Letter from the organization applied.

b) Upon reporting for the Industrial Training at the organization, the student is required to submit FORM B – Industrial Training Notification to CGIM within 3 (three) days to:

c) During the training, the student’s conduct must be in accordance with CGIM and organization working schemes, rules and regulations.

d) The student is required to complete Industrial Training Report including Form C – Student’s Report (in the Appendix 1) and must submit both to the Academic and Industrial Supervisor no later than one (1) week after the completion of the training. Please refer to the guidelines for Industrial Training Report attached as supplement with this document.

6. EVALUATION

 Company Assessment : 30%

Assessment Report on the student’s attitude and performance by the appointed supervisor from the company that student attached to.

 University Assessment : 70%

o Report : 50%

o Log book : 20%

Total : 100%

7. METHODS OF EVALUATION

a) The Academic Supervisor is responsible to assess the student’s performance during his/her visit to the host organization using Form D – Academic Supervisor’s Assessment Form in the Appendix 1.

b) Assessment Report by the Industrial Supervisor. The Industrial Supervisor is responsible to assess the student’s performance using Form E – Student’s Performance Evaluation Form in the Appendix 1.

c) The Academic and Industrial Supervisors are responsible to assess the student’s performance based on a report submitted.

8. Results

Results are based on the above evaluation methods. The passing marks will be 50%. FAIL results will also be given to those who obtain adverse evaluation from the industrial

supervisor, and/or fail to submit the industrial training’s report or turn up for student’s presentation. Students have to repeat the industrial training if they fail.

9. Placement Procedures

a) Registration

The student should register for Industrial Training during pre-registration of the final semester. However, the student must complete ALL CORE COURSES offered by Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT).

b) First Briefing

 First briefing will be conducted for all eligible students.

 This briefing will explain the purpose of Industrial Training, the guidelines and steps how to apply for placement in a suitable company.

 The Graduate Research Office will provide each student with Verification Letter for Application of Industrial Training

 The students have to find the suitable company to undergo the Industrial Training, or students are given other options via faculty placement.

c) Application for placement of Industrial Training

 Students will be given specific time frame to find and approach a suitable company to conduct his/her Industrial Training there.

d) Confirmation

 Students will confirm the name of the company by submitting the Company Acceptance Letter to the Head of Research, Graduate Research Office.  Each student will be assigned to an Academic Supervisor upon submission of the Company Acceptance Letter.

e) Postponement

 Students who wish to postpone the Industrial Training need to write a postponement letter to the Graduate Research Office.

f) Second Briefing

 The Industrial Training Programme Committee will conduct a briefing session right before the students undergo the Industrial Training. This session will brief on work ethics, project, presentation and reports. Attendance for this second session is COMPULSORY.

 The Academic Supervisor will provide each student with Industrial Training Programme Guidelines.

g) Industrial Training

 The Industrial Training period is 8 weeks.

h) Supervision

 During the Industrial Training, the students will be supervised by Industrial Supervisors and Academic Supervisor from CGIM.

 Academic Supervisor will visit or call the company during the Industrial Training for supervision purposes.

 Once the students join the company, they are required to do all the tasks assigned to them.
